Abstract

Introduction: new scientific resources have been incorporated for a better understanding and therapeutic approach to obesity. Among these, the evaluation of the alimentary behavior shows to have great correspondence with the several variables that permeate obesity. Materials and methods: this study evaluated the eating behavior, through the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire, of 30 individuals (50%) at the beginning of the treatment and 30 (50%) who were already in a treatment program for obesity for at least six months and compared the results found with the anthropometric profile, schooling, age and number of nutritional consultations and treatment time. The data collection took place during the period from March to August 2020. Results: expressive relationships were found between cognitive restriction (p=0.02), food compulsion (p=0.02) and emotional feeding (p=0.01) between groups. Likewise, there was statistical relevance between schooling and the number of consultations in each group and among them. Discussion: The results are consistent with studies that used similar time and population parameters, elucidating that the change in eating behavior in individuals with obesity through this instrument can be decisive for the success of weight reduction and its maintenance in post-treatment. Conclusion: the evaluation of feeding behavior has proven to be a relevant tool for the treatment of obesity and, therefore, the evaluation tools should be used to enable weight loss and maintenance of this result in the long term.
