Abstract

Binge Eating (BE) is defined as a specific behavior that refers to a form of overfeeding. The treatment is multiple, based on cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, drug use, dietary guidance and phytotherapy. Griffonia simplicifolia, by the elevated concentration of 5-HTP, which is a precursor of serotonin, melatonin and other chemical mediators in the Central Nervous System, presents an alternative treatment for anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and mood, suppression of appetite, and Contribute to weight loss. Rhodiola rosea L. is an adaptogen that brings greater balance to the body and helps to control stress, in addition to increasing the transport of serotonin precursors in the brain. therefore, the study evaluated the effect of these phytotherapics on CA symptomatology in adult volunteers with BMI > 25 Kg/m², using as subjective analysis, anthropometry and biochemical tests. 12 patients were randomized for treatment (6) and control group (6) for 8 weeks, administering these herbal medicines twice daily as capsules. The treatment group presented a reduction in mean weight and BMI, while the control group presented an increase in these variables, however there was no statistical significance. According to the evaluation of biochemical tests, there was a significant reduction in total cholesterol levels in the treatment group (p = 0.04). Regarding CA, the treatment group had absence of CA in 5 (83.33%) individuals, in the control group absence was observed in 4 (66.67%). The results did not show statistically significant differences in the use of these phytotherapics for the treated group.
