Influence of obesity on polycystic ovary syndrome
Abstract
This article aims to review previous publications and to highlight that besides the well known disorders associated to obesity there are other pathologies common people is less aware of and that aggravate when the woman develops Obesity, and this is the case of polycistic ovary syndrome. The polycistic ovary syndrome is considered the most frequent endocrine trouble occurring in women while in their productive phase. It is characterized by the presence of at least two of the following factors: oligo or anovulation, hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovarian diagnosis in an ultrasonography examination. These symptoms become evident by the raising of the LH, androgens and of the estrogens serun and by the lowering of the FSH, following consequent changes in the quotient LH/FSH. Studies have shown that patients with polycistic ovary syndrome as they become obesity present hyperinsulinemic significant aggravation in their pathologic frame, resulting from the syndrome itself. Probably, severe variations may occur in the lipids metabolism, with late cardio-metabolic repercussions, growing arterial hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus and strong hirsutism. Infertility and the development of diseases such as endometrium cancer may also appear. So, it is very important that patients who present polycistic ovary syndrome keep their body mass index (BMI) normal and do physical actives in regular bases.
