The breastfeeding in the prevention of the infantile obesity
Abstract
Introduction: Obesity is considered to be an epidemic disease and its impact on children has been increasing in the past few years. Considering the difficulty of treatment of infantile obesity, prevention would be the best solution. Breastfeeding would also have some protection effects against obesity in children. Goals: To present a literature review about the importance of breastfeeding to prevent infantile obesity. Literature review: Maternal milk provides the nutrients that a child needs to start a healthy life, and represents the essential nourishment to suckling babies up till the sixth month of life. Considering the increase in infantile obesity and the difficulty ofits treatment, prevention is fundamentally needed. Breastfeeding is a possibility towards this prevention, as it presents hormones, which regulate the metabolism so that the child tends to gain less weight and less body fat mass during the very first year of life. Conclusion: Maternal milk provides protection effects in the prevention of infantile obesity.
