Trastorno dismórfico corporal y perfeccionismo con la apariencia física en estudiantes universitarios brasileños

Resumen

El trastorno dismórfico corporal es un trastorno cuyos síntomas comienzan a desarrollarse en la adolescencia, pero recién se diagnostican en la edad adulta. Las preocupaciones sobre áreas del cuerpo, pensamientos obsesivos y conductas compulsivas relacionadas con la imagen corporal son algunos de los síntomas más comunes de este trastorno mental. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la relación entre la presencia de síntomas dismórficos corporales y las variables perfeccionismo en cuanto a la apariencia física, género y orientación sexual minoritaria en una muestra de estudiantes universitarios brasileños. Un total de 489 estudiantes universitarios residentes en 16 estados brasileños participaron en este estudio respondiendo al cuestionario en línea. Los resultados mostraron que no hubo diferencia significativa en la puntuación promedio de perfeccionismo de apariencia entre géneros y que la orientación sexual minoritaria obtuvo una puntuación más alta en la escala de perfeccionismo de apariencia. En la regresión logística, el perfeccionismo con la apariencia se identificó como un alto predictor del trastorno dismórfico corporal. Se concluyó que, al tomar en cuenta las variables mencionadas, sólo el perfeccionismo fue capaz de predecir el trastorno dismórfico corporal. El estudio tuvo relevancia científica nacional al ser el primero en analizar el perfeccionismo con la apariencia como predictor del trastorno dismórfico corporal.
