Association between type of displacement for school, time of screen and physical inactivity in schools
Abstract
Introduction: Adolescence is characterized by being a determining factor for the quality of life of the individual as an adult, but it is also the stage in which sedentary habits are adopted, which can lead to the development of pathologies and social problems. Objectives: This cross-sectional study aims to verify if the type of school dislocation is associated with screen time and physical inactivity in schoolchildren. Materials and Methods: The sample is composed of 1396 adolescents, 10 to 17 years old, female and male, from public and private schools in the city of Santa Cruz do Sul-RS. To evaluate the type of displacement to the school, the evaluation of the time spent with screen devices and the frequency of physical inactivity, questionnaires were used. Results and discussion: data were analyzed in SPSS v. 23.0. Results: there is a high frequency of adolescents who move sedentaryly to school (66.3%), who do not practice physical activity (49.4%) and spend 2 hours or more a day in front of the screens (61.2%). Among the male adolescents, it is observed that the passive displacement to the school is associated with physical inactivity (p = 0.024). Conclusion: the frequency of sedentary habits among adolescents is high. In addition, moving to school is associated with physical inactivity.
