Effects of isoenergetic diets on body composition and nitrogen balance of functional training practitioners: a pilot study
Abstract
Introduction: Most functional training practitioners have weight loss as their main objective. However, in order to achieve weight loss, it is necessary to develop a strategy that requires calculations of energy needs individually, always respecting the particularities of individuals. Objective: in addition to the dietary profile, the effects of two dietary protocols on body composition and nitrogen balance of practitioners of functional exercise were analyzed. Materials and Methods: the study was carried out with 8 individuals, of both sexes. Food consumption assessment, dietary intervention, anthropometric assessment and determination of nitrogen balance were performed. Results: the public studied needs improvements in eating habits, mainly in terms of micronutrients. Still, it was observed that there were no significant differences, however, there was a decrease in the average variation of body fat in groups D1 and D2 of -1.70 kg (-1.67%) and -0.95 kg (-1, 25%), respectively. As well as a reduction in the average variation of total weight (kg), BMI (kg / m2), and an increase in lean mass (kg) in both groups. Regarding the nitrogen balance, there was an average positive variation (22.00) in group D1 and negative (-4.46) in group D2. Discussion: The hyperlipidic dietary protocol probably caused the flow of energy through the lipids to be directed. Conclusion: the consumption of hyperlipidic-isocaloric diets is an important factor to make the nitrogen balance positive in individuals practicing predominantly aerobic exercises. Still, both protocols induced positive results in the respective mean variations in relation to anthropometry.
