Requirements for fractures free from tireoidian hormones, spermogram and sex hormone-binding globulin in obesity: a current perspective for clinical practice
Abstract
Background: Among many metabolic problems triggered by obesity, changes in thyroid and sex hormones are important in the prevention and clinical treatment of this disease. Aim: To raise, discuss and synthesize the importance of the demand for triiodothyronine (T3) and free thyroxine (T4), as well as the relevance of the spermogram and the Sex Hormone-Binding Globolin (SHBG) as biochemical parameters for the evaluation and obesity treatment. Methods: A literature review was carried out using as reference the articles published between 2000 and 2017 in Pubmed databases. The results demonstrate the importance of the stratification and evaluation of the thyroid functions through the free thyroid hormone values for better accuracy of the metabolic aspect impaired by obesity, as well as the necessity and clinical relevance of spermogram and SHBG rates. Conclusion: The request for T3 and free T4 should be encouraged in obesity, as well as, as far as possible, the spermogram and SHBG. However, should be considered the financial side of the clinical setting and to having a good interpretation of the exams, for example, modification SHBG may exhibit inflammatory potential or relate to hormonal disorders.
