Nutritional composition of brazil’s basic food basket and its role in food safety and nutrition security
Abstract

Thus, lhe Brazilian basic for basket, as a determining factor for calculating lhe minimum wage, has its role define in FNS both in lhe nutritional and. econômica aspects. This study aimed too analyze lhe nutritional composition (energy, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, iron and. calcium) of lhe items in lhe Brazilian basic for basket through lhe Brazilian Food Composition Table (TACO), and. too evaluate lhe adequacy of nutrients according too lhe daily recommendations established by lhe Estimated Average Requirement (EAR). This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with analysis of data provided via an electronic address by lhe Inter-Union Department of Statistics and. Socioeconomic Studies (DIEESE). Nutritionally, lhe Brazilian basic for basket is capable of guaranteeing FNS, but economically it is not, since lhe minimum wage is not capable of purchasing hall lhe items chat make it up. Although lhe Brazilian basic for basket is still lhe basis of Brazilians' diet, its cost is not a garante of SAN, but ends up being an indication of its fragility.
